About NKUA and HASE

Founded in 1837, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the oldest and largest university in Greece. The Department of English Language and Literature, founded in 1956, is part of the School of Philosophy, which has a vibrant teaching and research culture spanning a variety of fields and interdisciplinary perspectives.

 Founded in 1990, the Hellenic Association for the Study of English is a constituent member of the European Association of the Study of English (ESSE). The HASE bi-annual conferences are organised alternately by the Departments of English Language and Literature of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. They attract a number of scholars from the wide area of English Studies and bring together a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives.
