About NKUA and HASE Founded in 1837, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the oldest and largest university in Greece. The Department of English Language and Literature , founded in 1956, is part of the School of Philosophy , which has a vibrant teaching and research culture spanning a variety of fields and interdisciplinary perspectives.   Founded in 1990, the Hellenic Association for the Study of English is a constituent member of the European Association of the Study of English (ESSE). The HASE bi-annual conferences are organised alternately by the Departments of English Language and Literature of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . They attract a number of scholars from the wide area of English Studies and bring together a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives.
